Solar Power Inverters

The solar photovoltaic system or otherwise known as solar power system is one of mankind’s incredible invention that incorporates technological advancement and at the same time, concern for the environment. It has a number of components that enable the whole system to harness solar energy efficiently and one of the most important parts is the inverter. Solar inverters play a pivotal role in the whole solar photovoltaic system because without them, the whole system would not be as efficient in harnessing solar power and electricity gathered by the solar panels would not be useable by most household appliances. In other words, the solar inverters are just as important as the other parts of the photovoltaic system and buying a high-quality solar inverter will certainly help a consumer save money in the long haul.

How the Solar Power Inverter works:

The solar inverter has four crucial functions which consist of :
• inversion
• maximum power point tracking
• grid disconnection
• integration and packaging

Although there are still appliances that utilise DC (direct current), most household and business appliances run on AC (alternating current) these days simply because AC can travel at a longer distance with minimum power loss and least number of materials. In a solar photovoltaic system, the solar panel captures sunlight and the solar cells that comprise it produce direct current. The inverter performs the essential function of inversion which simply means converting direct current to the more useable alternating current. The second function of a solar inverter is maximum power point tracking. This function allows the whole photovoltaic system and similar devices to get the highest feasible power from the photovoltaic array. It keeps track of the maximum power point despite any environmental conditions that may otherwise affect the whole photovoltaic system negatively. It enables the solar PV system to maintain constant efficiency in spite of significant changes in intensity and environmental temperature all through out the day. The grid disconnection feature of the inverter disconnects from the grid if the voltage goes above or below standard limits. This function lessens the chance of electrical accidents. Inverters are integrated with manual/automatic ac/dc disconnection means. The automatic ac disconnection means prevent damage from power surges and lightning. This extends the products’ life. High-quality packaging of an inverter not only prolongs the service life of a product but also serves as a safety feature.
